Location Based Alert System Application for Club Members

Hi Guys,

Little lady here trying on something very ambitious.. I have done the tutorials and such but really have not dove head first into this as I feel I should. I work in the club industry and we want to create an alert system that pushes to their device to detail them on what's going on or where we are going to be. Basically highlight dancer information, options for them to send feedback, and email.. etc etc.. that sort of thing.. I'm not a rookie though, I have some programming experience. They depend on me for anything techie and this was a great idea.. so now I'm looking for assistance. Looking for pitfalls to avoid and a great start up tutorial to implement google api for location services and especially push notification.

Any and all suggestions would help.
