Thumbs up Kobold2D: The Game Engine for Apple App Store Developers

I'm very excited (not just happy or pleased because that would be an understatement) to announce Kobold2D: the Apple App Store game engine for iOS & Mac OS developers!

Kobold2D may sound familiar to some, and you're right: it's based on cocos2d-iphone and includes cocos3d, Lua, Wax, ObjectAL, iSimulate, cocos2d-extensions, SneakyInput, and more. I'm jumping through hoops and loops to provide you with nothing but an awesome getting started experience!

First of all: there's an installer that takes care of everything for you - no Terminal scripts!

Then there's the Kobold2D Project Starter tool with which you can create your own projects based on one of the 13 (that's right, 13!) template projects including playable example games.

Of course, the complete API References for all libraries and all platforms are available online, offline and within Xcode Help.

And upgrading from one Kobold2D version to another is no longer a dreadful process, but a mere mouse click in the Kobold2D Project Upgrade tool.

"But I'm in the middle of a Cocos2D project…" I hear you say. But it's really straightforward to migrate to Kobold2D, I'd like to counter.

Maybe my name sounds familiar to some of you. I'm the author of the Learn iPhone and iPad Cocos2D Game Development book by Apress. Kobold2D was in fact prompted because of writing the book and my freelance experience with Cocos2D, which kept nagging at my professional drive to finally fix the nuisances and to replace them with convenience.

I hope you'll join me in enjoying to work with Kobold2D! I'd be more than happy to hear from you in the Kobold2D Forum. And leave your voice in or add ideas to the Kobold2D Feedback section.
