It's a pay per install provider... they have a mobile community where their users download apps and complete other actions (rate, leave a comment, leave feedback for the dev) to get points. They can then use these points for real rewards, such as PayPal money or gift cards.
I had a call with an AppRedeem rep yesterday. It sounds pretty cool, we're thinking about putting money into it... but I'd love to know if anyone has tried using them, or has a success story.

Drop a line!
Hi Joe,
I've heard some positive things about them. Are you going to be using Appredeem for an Android App or iOS App or both. They are well funded as well from from Blurun ventures and SV angel.

iOs app.
I'm sure they're reputable, I would just like to see reviews from a few developers. I don't like going into a promo / marketing engagement blind.
It's based on a bidding system. You decide how much you want to pay per install and AppRedeem converts that into points for their users. When they download / install your app, they get points. Obviously the higher the bid, the more points the user gets, making it more appealing to download.

Hmm interesting, their minium bid per install is .50 (paid apps) so it seems like you'd make .20 cents profit on every download if your app was .99...Not bad to introduce it to people who otherwise never would have seen it.
It seems their SDK include cryptography though? Would I have to then list my app as having cryptography for export and fill out more paperwork?
I too am interested in their services but want to hear experiences
Well, I've placed their code in my app and uploaded the update for review to itunes. Seems like a no brainer to pay only .50 cents per install on a .99 app if it reaches people who otherwise would never have download app. I'll let you know how it goes.

Awesome! Looking forward to hearing about your experience. We may use AppRedeem too, getting ready for the official launch of our app RAVN Events tomorrow.

Nothing but great things to say about my experience with app redeem so far. I am paying 50 cents per install (minimum bid for paid app) My app is 99 cents so I'm seeing a return of only 20 cents per install but in the past two days I've had 61 installs of my paid app (was averaging 1 or 2 a day) and the users are using the facebook share and tweet features within the app spreading the word. Not sure how long this will keep up (I assume a "new" app gets more exposure on their network) but so far so good. 61 fresh installs and $12 in profit. No complaints here.

Word, that sounds good. I'm going to try AppRedeem. My app is free, currently no IAPs, but it still seems like an inexpensive way to get downloads / users.

So to use their App Redeem first I need to register as an advertiser?
Their website does not have much information, at least without registering. If they advertise apps, why do apps need to integrate their SDK? I don't get how it works.

They have an app in the app store and a mobile website (m.appredeem.com) that has a list of apps that users can preview and then buy. For doing so the user gets a certain amount of points. When the user has enough points they can redeem them for gift cards. (hence redeem in the name)
As an advertiser you set a bid you willing to pay per download. The higher the bid the more points your app is worth and thus more enticing to users. Currently I am getting about 30 installs per day from app redeeem with a bid of .50 cents per install (so i am making 20 cents profit after apples cut of my 99 cent app)
All their SDK does is report back to them whenever your app is installed so they can count the # of installs that they drove.

FYI the minimum bid per install of a free app is .25 though I haven't tried it with a free app yet.

So what exactly is the business model for AppRedeem? How are they making money? Let's say my app costs $4 and we bid for $1 per install. Now we get revenue 0.7 x ($4 - $1) = $2.1 per paying customer and for each customer AppRedeem gives some points (=money). Are they giving out less than the $1 we are paying per install?

Probably, I'd bet that the 'buyer' gets about 50% of your bid and AppRedeem keeps the other 50%. Give or take.
