Have just released my first app
and have had some bad reviews
Some are probably right, but some look suspicious
for example, got one real bad from India
but my app has never been downloaded from India according to Google analytics
another is from someone who rate all the apps with one star in the category except one that got 5
How common is this?
and how does this affect my rank?
As for that guy who ranks everything 1 star - yeah, that's dishonest, I guess some categories have scammers like these.
As for the review from India, I'd say it just means the analytics are wrong. No way you could get a review from someone who didn't download the app.
Don't worry, just get more reviews which will oveershadow these two.

I reported one bad one star review to Apple using the button in the reviews and Apple removed it. Worth a try so long as it's not overused. The person was giving one star to everything. I have one bad review that I just left cause I think it looks more realistic as I only had 5 star reviews.

But yeah, ratings do not affect ranks anymore. (it used to)
I have been seeing a lot of apps with 1 star rating, but still
they are in the top 10 overall (those lockify apps, etc).
don't bother your time with fake bad reviews.. but do
read them through bcos sometimes they are from
real customers who is not happy about something.
then you get to improve your app.

Did apple recently change their ranking algorithm? I noticed one of our apps that was 3rd when you searched for Oscars (and had some really good reviews) dropped down to 12th place all the sudden? When did reviews start not effecting rankings.

Yeah, I had an app featured recently, but it's ranking DROPPED!
