Default "Rate my game" nag - best practices?

Hey

From your experience, what is the best way to draw positive reviews and ratings from within the game?

I am not sure about any of these 2 options:

1. It seems you have been enjoying this game, could you please take a minute to rate it?

or

2. If you are enjoying this game, please take a minute and rate it

or maybe you can suggest a better text to "convert" players?

Thanks

Default Rating my game nag

Both seem fine to me though I'm not a copywriter.

I've seen some games adding, "If you like our game, don't forget to rate us in the app store!" right on the default loading screen.

I would recommend you focus on timing the nag for when people have done well in the game, high score or achievement. That way they're feeling good about playing and will be more likely to click through. Also makes it more likely they'll rate you higher.

I've also noticed some games rewarding players with something in-game in exchange for rating the game well. The game that did this had thousands of ratings.

I tried many types, but I don't know which is more effective... I don't think it matters to those who like to "cancel on prompts". Mostly it is just like below sentence.

Like xxxx? Then rate it! Rating helps us to give out better updates in the future.

Like Crafty said... instead of WHAT is in the review request popup, focus on the WHEN.

We've found that popping up a review after the easiest levels gets a way better respose, rather than at the start of the game or after hard levels. Makes sense right?

You will have to tolerate the "this game is easy" posts, but in the long run, we found that we got a lot more 5-star reviews this way. If the game is awesome and hard, you will get a few good reviews by the good players and the other players will get frustrated and not even review. If the game is awesome and easy (review popup after the easy levels), more players will feel good about themselves and therefore write a review.

Giving review incentives works too.

First, thanks for your tips, really helpful. This is a great community.

Second, which options should the "rate-us" popup have:

Option 1:
---------
1) rate it
2) not know
3) never ask again

Option 2:
---------
1) rate it
2) not now

Option 3:
---------
1) rate it
2) cancel (<-- which actually means - never ask again)

I think that option 2 might seem best, because it pops up every so and so levels (maybe every each 10 levels) thus forcing the user to rate, or else he gets nagged. But on the other hand, it might cause antagonism and users might eventually choose this option just to give a negative review because of being nagged.

So what is your take on this?

Thanks!
