Hey there, been lurking on here for a while now and love this site. I have a few questions regarding the best marketing techniques. I am about to submit my first application and I'm really excited, but it seems like a bunch of developers have had there apps unnoticed due to the large volume of apps in the App Store. After reading carBUZZ's thread, they sound like they nailed it with the marketing and took off. I don't have $8,000 to invest in marketing by any means like they did, but I do have a few bucks set aside.
After browsing through this subsection, I've learned that the best thing to do is to get your app reviewed by as many reviewers as possible. I'll definitely do that, but is there any surefire way to guarantee sales? Also, is it totally legal to pay sites / local retailers to review your application? Any advice is much appreciated.
There is never a garanty of having good sales. I'm sure there are good services for these, but before all those services, you will have to market.
The best FREE marketer is YOU.
What can you do?
- First as you said, you will have to ask for 50 promo code or less and send them to EVERY review site you can see on google. Some will answer you, some will not. In any case, you will have some of those that will make a review...
PS: Take a look at:B.I.G. Games: Review Sites for a BIG list of sites.
- Secondly, Facebook and Twitter and other social networks are a great and FREE way to promote your product again. Post as many on Facebook and tweet and retweet your app link on your Twitter. Do you have a Twitter?
- Then you can maybe look for paying services if you want even more sales than your promotion, but that will cost and this has no garanty of growing sales.
I can tell you twitter and facebook maybe worked a few years back but not anymore.
I keep track of my tweets, and one that has reached over 100 000+ people will have around 15-25 CLICKS on the link, that is if you make an INSANELY shocking/must-see tweet about the app. If you make an average tweet that number is in single digit area.
You can imagine the ROI on that one.
Facebook isn't much better. People are just fed up with spammers.
I'm fed up with my GOOD friends sending me invitations to countless events,
let alone suggestions for buying "the next great app".

Interesting, thanks for the replies. I was thinking about paying the Youtube channels that have over 1,000,000 subscribers to add a link to my app in the description box of their next couple of videos, do you think this is a good idea? Also, I saw on a few different threads on here that doing a PR with prMac.com is well worth it, does anyone have any experience with this?
like most have said, its very tough to get your game out there especially with the mountain of apps out there. Unless you have money to use towards promotion there is slim chances of getting over the top of apps.

Thanks SeriouSamus. If I were to have the money to use for promotion, what do you think best way to invest it would be?
