Default Updates Are Now Treated as New Apps on The App Store!

I've noticed today that updates are now showing up under the "Release Date" list on the app store in all categories. I think this will give apps more exposure, however if that list gets very crowded, users may not visit it that often.

What do you think?

I'm thinking that:

1. It might be a temporary glitch rather than a real change.
2. If it is a real change, why didn't Apple tell us rather than making it necessary for us to discover it (one of my pet peeves in general).

But most significantly,

3. I doubt it matters a lot. As you say, it's so crowded and the exposure so brief, that it is probably far more hurtful to new apps than helpful to updates.

When it used to be like this, it was a good thing! However, it made the review teams life hell as everyone would be pushing updates all the time. But it was still a small sales spike every time.

May have been a glitch and some kind of lag during the new itunes updates, but after checking in my category this is indeed the case, over the last few days anyways...

I think this would certainly benefit most of us although I really hope this doesn't make the review times any longer than they already are...

Yep, this is true. Updates are now showing back up under Release Date. This really surprises me. Good news though!

Updates as new releases isn't the only thing that is back. Apps now go into the new releases list based on the approval date or original release date, whichever is earlier. So you need to move the release date up as soon as the approval hits like before.

We had an app approved Sunday, waited til today to release (moved the release date forward from Dec 31st to Nov 23rd yesterday), and it is showing up with the releases from Sunday. So we missed the new release visibility. I guess we just need to get an update out to at least take advantage of that while it lasts.
