I released my first game recently and while first month has been hectic in terms of bug fixing (it's a MMO game, most of the stuff to fix is server side), but now, as the dust starts to settle, I'm starting to think about promotion.
So here comes my question: I did some research on keywords when I was submitting the game to the store, but I have ZERO clue whether I chose them quite well or completely bad. Is there a way to track how the keywords influence the sales? How your app is found in the store, what searches translate into purchases, those basic SEO things.
I have a feeling that I didn't do it right. From the quick survey I did among the players I didn't find anyone who got the game thanks to the keywords. Everyone was either referred or found it on the recently released/best selling lists.

All help is much appreciated!
Apple doesn't provide any such feedback about keywords. There is still a good bit of mystery surrounding them. You could change keywords after a minor update and see if there is any effect on sales.

I would also love to be able to see hard stats on each of the keywords used. Unfortunately from what I understand this isn't possible nor is it in the realm of possibility through Apple. Good luck with your app, it looks fantastic!!

Thanks! A lot of work went into it. :-)
It's such a shame that there is no way to check how your choice of keywords is impacting the sales. What world are we living in if we're forced to do "trial and error" marketing... Apple can be brilliant in some areas and so incredibly dumb in others. It's perplexing.

As for the keywords, the marketing analyst in me says that keyword stats would seriously help let me optimize them for specific apps... however the apple product consumer in me is secretly applauding Apple for blocking those stats. Not having those stats keeps developers honest. If we were to get those stats, you would see all kinds of flashlight apps with "physics puzzle" as their keywords lol.
Either way, I guess time will tell. For now I suppose the only thing we could do is just to make sure that we are in touch with our game and our audience and select keywords that reflect our game. Once again, good luck with your game!!
