Trying to make more people check out my app. Suggestions?
Hi all,
I released an app last week and I felt the idea for it was very unique. It's a golf game but what makes it different to all the others is that you go out there and play golf for real, using gps, the compass, the accelerometer and even the camera for an augmented reality feature in my game, that displays a virtual ball and flag.
Since I started developing this game I thought the concept was great and could catch on with a mass market. The only problem is I don't think enough people are actually seeing it. I tweet several times a day about it and it has a facebook page and twitter account. Me and my friend have also emailed several app reviewers and bloggers asking if they would be interested in reviewing it.
It's early days for my app, granted, but I was expecting a little bit more of a buzz with all the effort I've put in. Here are several webpages related to the game, which is called Par-Tee - Augmented Reality Golf:
Also, with the next update (due in a week or two) we will most likely make our icon look more exciting and include captions in the screenshots. There will also be a video added to the Youtube page showing gameplay.
If anyone has any feedback they can offer (including anything related to the above paragraph) that would be much appreciated.
Sounds like an interesting concept, but are people really going to download an app that could potentially make them accidently toss their phone into a river? Doubt it.

Yeah, I can see what you're saying on this one. While we actively encourage players to be careful when swinging their device, it probably won't remove all the fear of accidentally throwing their phone. The truth is you don't actually have to swing it that hard to make a max power shot, or even swing it like a golf club. Just a flick can do. Perhaps my next task in preparation for V1.1 will be to edit the description to at least put at ease some potential players' concerns for throwing their phone.

I just think that gameplay mechanic doesn't work well with a phone. Nintendo Wii / Kinect sure. But iphone? I think there is a reason we haven't seen a game like this succeed yet. But who knows, maybe you will be the first =)
It's currently ranked around 700 or so, according to AppAnnie and that looks like a way more interesting version of the game than you have.
So, my guess is that people just generally aren't interested in this type of game. Maybe it had some cool-factor when it first came out last year and was one of the few apps that implemented augmented reality in an interesting way. But the vin diagram that shows iphone owners vs iphone owners that want to play golf games vs iphone owners that will actually get out and walk around to play said game must show a very small intersection.

The App sounds really interesting, but it's missing a Trailer.
Before I buy an app most of the time I go to youtube and try to find a review or a gameplay-trailer of the App so I can actually see how the App really works.
Especially for this kind of app I think the screenshots don't really show the real gameplay.
And imo you should consider creating a new design for your website or (if you are not that good with designing a website like me) get a template for it.
Currently the side looks really boring since it's only gray. It's missing some color.

Now you can rather use iPhoneAppTrailers.com
I think, like somebody said before, people are not interested to go out and walk around the city for a game. That's why those google map games allow you to switch locations virtually.
I would advice to allow users to chose if they want a real track or just a virtual one, so they can decide if they want to go out or just play the game in their living room.
@bignoggins we will certainly do our best to be the first! That was our intention anyway, to bring something completely unique to the app store, and all of the app store reviews have been great so far which is really good.
In fact, we were completely unaware of this other game. I downloaded it and gave it a little go, comparing it to our own. I think what separates the two is that with this other app, everything is made around the phone and the course, whereas in our one the player defines his/her own course and there are no annoying fire hydrants in the way. Ours is more like real golf I feel. We've also got plenty of updates planned to further improve the gameplay; that should make it more exciting.
We're also nearly finished with the gameplay video too, unfortunately it's taken longer than expected but hopefully more people will check out Par-Tee once that video is up. The website is grey (although it does have a radial gradient from white) which is the theme of my business's website as it's called Silvertech Studios. In fact the website will be slightly redesigned and online soon, with a faster loading background which should make it a lot more presentable. And this will be one I've hard-coded rather than using drag and drop tools so hopefully it will look better to everyone else
@promo dispenser, play anywhere will also be part of our next update. Looks like I can expect some improvement in visibility and hits once V1.1 is out judging by what everyone else is saying about the current version.
Did you try and contact some golf clubs or golf companies presenting them your idea. Maybe they are interested in it in some way? Or they would like you to make something similar for them?

Yeah we've tried golfing magazines and blogs as well as reviewers. In fact my partner got a response back from Today's Golfer who have agreed to review it so it's not all bad news!
