Default In-app social media sharing buttons

Has anyone had success using in-app social media sharing buttons as a way to increase downloads?

If so, any suggestions on how & when to present them to the user to maximize effectiveness?

I'm interested in this also. I'm thinking of a tweet and a fb like button, but not sure how to code it up. Depending on your app, it might be possible to put them in a prominent location in the main interface, but you probably don't want them to take up too much screen space. If there are several options, maybe have a single "share" button with a popover or nav view to select the options. My app has an "about" screen that i would probably put the buttons in.

Facebook has an SDK for iPhone integration.

I believe, you must be registered as a developer at Facebook to be able to use it. It's free.

I think Twitter has something similar too, but I am not sure.

Twitter doesn't. It's actually a huge pain to post to Twitter. Though I think they announced Twitter support with iOS 5?

Facebook's pretty easy - they have an SDK, and it's not crazy hard to implement. We had a "Post to Facebook" button in our game. I can't tell you if it drived any sales, but I know a few people were using it. Wishing I had put more analytics in my game to get a better impression of how often it was used.
