AdMob effectiveness

I was wondering if anyone has tried putting money into AdMob to promote their app. I am kind of hesitant because most people say they put money in then it disappears in a few hours, usually with no noticeable difference in sales.

So my question is has anyone had success with their ads?

I can't provide much info but I do know that AdMob provide conversion tracking now so you can tell how many people who clicked the ad went on to buy your app. That means we should get a better idea of effectiveness soon.

I tried it out once and used $100. From the time my ad was approved, until the time i received the email telling me that I ran out of funds, it was 10 minutes. I felt like I threw away my money at that point. My sales figures were within the same amount that I normally received during that period. I am hesitant to try again.
