As we said a lot of times they won't work (for all sort of reasons including mainly level of clicks and effort to go from website to device) unless you have:

1) Nearly infinite budget
2) A very expensive app and a very big budget
3) An incredibly canning viral ad

Just uploading a banner on facebook and spending $30 "just to try" it's "just a waste of time", please buy yourself a couple of pizzas instead!

Think of it this way: how many advertisements do you click on?

I always wondered who the heck clicked on ads, since there must be, otherwise google wouldn't be as profitable as they are. From what I have read, a lot of them are people in the midwest, wives that stay home all day and are bored out of their mind and arent tech saavy.

I'd imagine there is a lot of overlap between that crowd and the ones targeted by nigerian scammers.

Haha! No doubt. Yeah, someone must be clicking on all these things and I honestly think it's not the people that buy iPhone apps

+1

Read the terms & conditions on the Facebook ads. But have a bucket of scalding hot water nearby to stick your head into, as otherwise you'll be clawing your eyes out. It's not a friendly medium if you can't throw down $10,000 or more (unknown if it becomes friendly then - ain't got the dime for their time). Plus, I don't actually see all that many ads on FB - it's Starbucks, a dating site, and a whole lot of nothing for me. And if you want to actually run a promotion ... yeech.

At least if you hand out the pizzas in a public location you might be able to generate some buzz for yourself

I prefer websites over Facebook advertisement. I am still not thrilled over company brand awareness over at Facebook. And Facebook advertising is over priced in my opinion. However there are some niches that benefit from it greatly.
