Default Getting Started With The iTunes Affiliate Program

I had a few offline questions about getting strted in the iTunes affiliate program so I put it all together in a blog.

If you aren't familiar with the iTunes affiliate program, it's basically a means for the developer (or anyone for that matter) to earn 5% on all sales that you refer to the iTunes store -- including applications.

Don't leave your 5% bonus on the table -- learn how to earn it.

Tomh - Good article. I did notice one thing. The US iTunes Affiliate Program through Linkshare is really only a 24 hour cookie, not 120 days. There was a SNAFU with LinkShare/iTunes and the cookie period got bumped up for a period but it is changed again now.

Would you be interested in reviewing my e-Book that I just published about the iTunes Affiliate Program? You can check it out at Mastering the iTunes Affiliate Program?

Thanks Tom I was curious about this. I'll read it through and post back if I have any questions.

The first time I tried to sign up for linkshare, I had serious problems with their site- I had to change some security settings in ffox before I could even log in.

I also had to disable my spyware/adware blocker before their links would work. Apparently the linkshare/linksynergy hosts are in some spyware block lists. Anyone else experience this?

I wasn't willing to trade the chance of a broken link for an extra five cents, so I never used it.

Yes, I've heard of these issues in the past as well; does anyone know if they have been resolved?

I don't know if they have been resolved but I haven't run into any problems in the last year or so.

Linkshare is alive an well. Have it integrated in a few of my apps. The only issue that bothers me is latency between having to go to Safari and then to the App Store.

Ahh so there is no way to have an affiliate link directly from the app itself? Thought I saw a thread on that somewhere..

You can definitely have the link in the app itself, but it opens safari instead of going directly to the app store.

Cool; I think I'm gonna finally start implementing this. Is the OP's guidelines still relevant; or has anything changed since then?

Hi thanks for this info.

But is this iTunes affiliate prorgram available for all developers?
Or only for US' developers or something? i read something about that, but
I may be wrong though.

Thanks.

hey all, the iTunes affiliate program is open to everyone.. but so far, mine only accounts to referrals from the US/Canada store IIANM.. there's also another affiliate program for the UK store..

in my particular experience, they will check your website and see if its relevant.. the last time when i applied, they rejected but then approved once i told them that i understand the program will only pay for links sent to the US Store..

@rarindeed and @scotopia, check out this thread.. we discuss how not to go thru safari for your affiliatized links.. hope its helpful - http://www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/bu...app-store.html

Cool; thanks. I just got rejected too which makes no sense; i'm sure its just some sillyness that will be corrected with some shenanigans...i'm used to everything with apple not working the first time around

your rejection comes not from apple, but from Linkshare..
just email them back and ask why.. the person i worked with the last time is very helpful and responsive.. she activated my account in no less than 8 seconds after things are made clear.. give it a try!

Cool, thanks! Seems like it would still have added latency since it's not itms:, but makes it much more streamlined!

I emailed them and got this back:

"
We have reviewed your account and website. iTunes has determined that the overall look and feel of your website is not a good fit with their marketing campaign at this time, and thus their decision to temporarily reject your application is final.
"

What the hell?

Sounds like you need to give your site a face lift. My guess is they saw the background image, and didn't like it much.

I'm no graphic designer but cmon it's at least passable. As far as the BG I've seen many sites do similar things to frame higher resolutions.

I sent them an email asking for clarification but no response; how am I suppose to please them if I don't know what they want... Anyone else ever get rejected?

You site looks ok to me.

Im also annoyed when people reject something, but do not really clrafiy what is the problem. At least pin point it so that we can fix it.

I haven't join this.. planning to join soon and give it a try.

why don't you reply them and say that you are an iPhone developer and you are applying for this program to earn an extra commision for your app sales.. tell them that this is recommended by Apple themselves as indicated by this web page: Marketing Resources - App Store Resource Center

good luck!
