This is a thread dedicated to teaching people about how you successfully marketed your iphone application. This is not a thread to ask questions about marketing on, but a thread to see other developers experience using different marketing solutions.
The stuff I've done has gotten us into the New York Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Macworld, Fox Business News, WGN9 Chicago, NBC5 Chicago, PC Magazine, and more. Hope you find it useful.
Thanks so much that guide is awesome!! What pr site did u use?
I don't use a PR site, I do it all myself. I've made my own mailing lists and contacts and go about it that way. I find it easier and more personal, and my results have shown that the press prefer it too haha.

I would, but our team has decided to not give it away right now. We've put together a solid targeted list of 345 email addresses right now and want to keep it internal. Sorry about that. We do offer marketing services, if you're interested. Just let me know.
If you won't give away the list of emails, then there is no point of the article is there? All of what you wrote are also everywhere inside google.com too.
Anyway, good article and thanks for sharing..the story.

Here's a link to our marketing page, where you can check out all the details. Marketing Services
Basically, we offer a cheap $100 service which will rework your description and write up a press release to help get you in local newspapers or television. We also give you some target outlets to send the release to, based off what we think will work best for your app.
We also offer a more detailed service for $500 as well, which you can check out too. There, we'll offer a greater deal of info as well as more contacts to reach out to.
Need help marketing your iPhone app to increase sales? Our team has a free PDF on how we got in the New York Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Fox Business News, Macworld, and more. Check it out here.
Also, since Delta asked, those two plans don't include emails to our entire contact list. We could add that onto each plan for a small additional cost. We typically only aim your app at 20-50 of our publications in our package just to keep price down, because a lot of our contacts may either be part of a regional press group or iPhone site that only reviews a certain type of app, so it makes less sense to target them with each mailing. However, we could work in additional mailings if you'd like.

+1 for me. Shoot me a PM with the details/prices. I have a game coming out soon, would love to have 345 press releases sent out for it...

Sounds promising, I'll give it some thought for when our next app is coming out
App Store Marketing is still a big unknown and many companies are trying to figure out the best techniques. Apple is not being too helpful either. They do, however, give out pointers once in a while. Not sure if you have come across this in the last few days: "Want to help your chances of being featured on the App Store? The iTunes editorial team is always looking for apps to highlight. The
criteria for an app being featured includes demonstrating technical
excellence as well as having a strong App Store presence. You can
improve your app's presence with engaging screenshots that clearly
demonstrate the features and functionality that make your app unique,
as well as with creative large and small icons that are free of any
messaging (like "Sale", "Lite", or "Free")".
