Default AdSense for iPhone apps?

Hey All,

I notice in my AdSense panel there is now an option for setting up "AdSense for Mobile Content"...but when I go through it, it seems like its not for iPhone Apps, but for Mobile web pages? Can we use this in apps yet or is it still against their rules? Thanks!

I noticed this too... I wonder if it's coming...

Yeah. I mean its possible right now; just make a UIWebView with some adsense stuff in it...but before it was against the rules; just want to know if that's changed.

It is coming... check out Fake-A-Call Free

They have a public beta you can apply to at here.

scotopia -- I think the "AdSense for Mobile Content" is for mobile web sites. The "AdSense for Mobile Applications" isn't available unless you are accepted into the beta.

I doubt it's changed. Adsense, in that case, wouldn't be able to "scan" the page it's on to display relevant ads, because it isn't on a real webpage. This is probably what's kept Google from releasing something so far. If they do come out with something, maybe it'll be based on developer-entered key words, or on a scan of your app's website.

Thanks Ed; just applied to the beta!

Opinions on whether revenue generated from this would crush things like admob?

Yeah, AdSense has been performing quite a bit better than admob had been for me. Gudus is right about the targeted ads, and I think that makes quite a bit of difference.

Cool! So I assume you are in the beta? If so, how long did it take from your application for them to approve you...if they approve me very soon, I'll use it in my new app! Fill rate is good?

Haha not yet, but I don't really want to address any specifics about fill rate or any non public information for that reason

I wouldn't hold up your release to hear back from them though. It doesn't seem like Google has been getting the word out about the beta recently, and I have no idea how big their beta program is. I've also been wondering how Google's acquisition of AdMob will go in this regards, and if they aren't focusing their attention on that currently. Hopefully they do get back to you soon though!

Thanks. I just posted on the AdSense forums to see if I can expedite the approval somehow. I have admob set up, and as you said its probably all going to be the same thing soon anyway. Even so; if AdSense is currently more profitable...then I want that!

I definitely understand that sentiment, but you can be making money with AdMob while you wait for a response from Google / get the new system set up, and updates get processed by Apple pretty quickly these days. Of course you might get stung a little going this route as users who don't update won't get the new ad provider... but usually the people who don't update aren't using the app anyway.
