Default Website to promote apps

Hi everyone,

Before I submit my app to Apple, I would like to build a website for promotion purposes. The only problem is I have no idea how to build a website... :S

I don't want anything too complicated, although not too basic either. I want a website where I can post screenshots, reviews, youtube videos, etc and have a way for users to contact me with problems. I have been through countless Google searches, and am slightly overwhelmed by the varying hosts, domains, languages, website building software, etc. If anyone has any experience and could recommend hosting, tutorials, what language/operating system to use it would be highly appreciated.

Thank you,

Cam

It is good that you want to design a web site for your app. That is one of the first things I use to check out an app. It always irritates me when I go to a web site and they have less information or just the same amount of information as the app store. I'm glad you are thinking it out If you think your app will sell good, look for a designer on Craigslist or somewhere. But if you do not know how to design, my advice is get someone who does because you want to be sure it looks good.

There's a bunch of products out there that make designing a website EXTREMELY easy. I've recently switched to Sandvox (Karelia Software: Creators of Sandvox, Mac Website Building App) to churn out my app sites. I highly recommend it - very simple to use, but it has some nice options for "injecting" your own code into pages if you start to get the hang of things and want to go a bit fancy. Both of the sites linked in my signature were created with Sandvox if you're after an example. Each one took about 30 minutes to put together (excluding typing in all the content).

As far as hosting goes, you can pretty much throw a rock in the air and it will land on a hosting company these days

Actually, while I'm recommended stuff I may as well go all the way. For hosting, nothing, in my opinion, beats (mt) Media Temple - Web Hosting Built to Scale.

But there are plenty of other options out there too.

And one more thing!

One of the guys at Karelia has a blog on the site. This particular entry (link below) has some very good tips and tricks regarding marketing your iPhone apps via a website.

Well worth a read. It's got me thinking that I really should completely revise my very basic general product site.

Creating a fan page on Facebook for App marketing is better than creating a website for App marketing. You can create Facebook Fan Page free of cost by just signing up on facebook and after creating fan page you can do viral marketing of fan page via suggest friends option on facebook fan page.

Good call on that. We currently do the social media triangle of a website, twitter account and facebook page. That way people are more likely to see one of those and check out the apps

Wow, thanks for all the response! I am in the process of creating both a computer and iphone friendly website, from which I will have links to a Facebook fan page and YouTube channel. I have also come up with a new company name, AptoTech ('apto' meaning 'touch' in Ancient Greek) and logo, thus why my name has changed from iPhoneDvelopment (yes, I am the guy who started this thread ).

You know, by reading your requirements for a website you need, the first thing that comes to my mind is http://blogger.com - right, you need a blog and Google's Blogger may fit the bill for you.
