Hello,
This is my first app (Tapluck) a lucky game with prizes, I released it last week with no press release or promotion. I only got about 15 downloads so far. The app has a giveaway section, and i'm giving away a Mac Book pro and a Mac mini and some other things this month.
What would be the best way to promote such an app. I am beginning to think that only have few users will be in the running for the giveaway.
I am considering a press release (but to whom?), placing ads on admob, google adsense and tap joy.
I would appreciate your feedback, i've read some of the threads and still not sure about which approach to take.
I will give the press release a shot. I am also using twitter/facebook, what other social apps do you recommend trying. Also how do you avoid being labeled a spammer.
I am also submitting to giveaway sites, does anyone know of any good site to submit the giveaway to?
Yes a press release is you single best tool. PRMAC works pretty well. Do some searching and emulate a well written press release. Of course you will need a web site for the app if you don't already have one. Otherwise the PR is kind of a waste. It's a good idea to make a You Tube video and embed that in the web page if you can.
Twitter works okay but you will need to start by following people that would be interested in following you. Then you will need to make regular interesting tweets. It takes some time to get built up. What you are trying to achieve are re-tweets by your followers. This is how you create a publicity snowball on twitter.
Youre description need to be worded much better and you need more screen shots. Its very hard to tell from your app page what you are actually getting. As a potential consumer I would also like to know what my chances of winning are, how often prizes are drawn, etc.

Wow, I just read the description and you are absolutely right. Initially, I was afraid of the approval process and was avoiding rejection from the app store.
I believe they are a little more lenient and I will make the change.
The app is geared to giving away 4-5 items per month. The drawings are random and right now your chances are extremely high LOL. I've used Twitter, FaceBook, press releases and i'm only getting a trickle of users.
I am thinking of using an Add network to build a base. Essentially, I trying to create "The App That Gives" as a Brand.
Thank you for your comments, I'm learning something new every day and and I appreciate your help.
Definitely work on your description. Especially the first few lines that show up without clicking more. With the description you have now I'm sure a high very percentage of people read it and move on because they think it is just one of the many pointless apps.
I wouldn't worry about what you say in your description getting your app rejected by apple.

I took your advice and made some changes both to the description and to the app. I am using TapJoy and they are pretty awesome.
Apple rejected my app several times and caused me to have to limit the latest release and modify my descriptions several times.
I have given away 3 prizes so far and it feels good, just not getting much in terms of return at this point. So tomorrow March 17th, TapLuck will be free for St. Patrick's day, I would be delighted if you would download it for free and "Tap Your luck". If you do, I would appreciate any suggestions.
I have tried to do a press releases, however, everyone wants to get paid to review my app. My fear is that they will look at it as a game and compare it to the higher end games. My games are there to make it fun and they are not 3d or animated.

My app will be free tomorrow, please feel free to download it and tell me what you think.
Thanks for your help

Hello, Tarek!
Your game Tapluck can be popular and top-payed!
Of course now you need to make a launch strategy - because with hundreds thousands apps in the app store now it's not enough just to develop a good app unfortunately.
I want to offer you our marketing and Pr service to make your app reach to the desirable place in top-100 and of course monetize it.
Please look what exactly I propose to you : https://comboapp.com/marketing
For any question please free to ask me.
Good luck.
