New to developing and was thinking of advertising my app with AdMob. Just curious of what you are getting back in return. For every $50 or $100(or whatever amount you like) you spend, what are you getting back as far as app sales?
Does it really pay to use AdMob?
I don't want ads in my app but, want to pay for ads in other apps. If you are already doing this, please let me know if it is working for you.
Thank you.
Oh, my app is iPasties. It's not much now but, the new update is going to kick a$$ !! It has a little surprise inside that I haven't seen in other apps yet. Though, I'm sure does exist.
If you are trying to spend $100 on AdMob... and get back more than $100 in direct sales, then you are using paid advertising wrong.
Assuming iPasties is 0.99... you are making what... $0.69 per sale?
Now lets imagine you are paying $0.15 per click on AdMob
About 1% of your clicks... will translate into sales.
$100 = 667 clicks = 7 sales = $4.83 revenue
Never try using paid advertising to generate direct revenue. It simply wont work. There are many other reasons to use advertising... drop me an email and Id be happy to discuss.

Appency's conversion math is the logical analysis, and the reason why a lot of paid ad networks are tough to use, for the purpose of tracking actual install conversions. Fortunately, Flurry is getting around this problem with AppCircle, which charges promoters on a cost-per-install basis. You can read more on our AppCircle site.
The basic idea in a nutshell is: given our vast data set, we are able to make relevant recommendations on applications to end users, and drive installs through our network (as opposed to and ad network, which is click/impression-driven). And of course, if you're paying for installs, it's measurable ROI with *no loss* of funds.
Check out our page, and please DM if you have more questions; I'd love to work with you (and anyone else) on figuring out the right way to roll you into our network.

That is not true. For your example that may be correct, but not for all products and all forms of paid advertising. You just need to make sure that the numbers work, and it can work for iphone apps too.
I buy ads on some sites for $5 a month and promote stuff that generates $50 per sale. I only need one sale in 10 months to make a profit.
For apps you want to advertise where you can get good bang for you buck. Like here on iPhone Dev SDK forums you can advertise your app up at the top. That is pretty targeted at a cheap price.
Can you share on which sites only charges for $5 a month?
And what kind of Alexa/Compete ranking do the sites have?

Saying that it works for $50 apps if you can buy $5/month ads is almost exactly the same thing as saying that it doesn't work.
