Could anybody who has experience with Twitter tell me whether it is a good way of finding fans for your apps? Are people likely to follow your news, user your promo codes and visit your web site?
They way to have people go to your twitter is to have everything go full circle. Your app should have a link to your webpage which then asks people to follow you on twitter. When in forums, put up a link in your signature to your twitter (mine's at the bottom). Start a facebook fan page that links to twitter and your website.
So on and so forth. Our app just came out so we're still building up our fan base. Just make sure people know how to get to you. People have to first like you before they want to keep finding out news about you!
I think Sinecure Industries makes an excellent point. Twitter is an excellent resource, but like any other marketing tool, you have to work extremely hard to make it work.
Twitter is used by most iPhone application websites. So when you get some publicity on those websites, your app will show up in their tweets, which get picked up by many other people. This allows interested people to find your app on iTunes, which will lead them to your website, which should lead them to your twitter account.
In other words, one twitter account doesn't provide much. However, it can be a valuable resource if you have an overall marketing strategy.

That all depends on your marketing strategy. Are you working on updates? Are you coming out with more products? What does your company want to announce to people?
It's all up to how you want to present yourself. You could be funny, participate in hashtags, or just give updates on what you're working on. People should want to follow you because they like your product and want to see what you're coming up with next.
