Andy65 - thank you for posting a link to that article on using Hollrr to promote your iPhone app. We've been thrilled with the reaction from iPhone Developers to Hollrr - "Finally a great way to promote my App outside the confines of the App Store!"
Hunnenkoenig - thanks for your post. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to tell you more about Hollrr and answer some of your questions.
Firstly, let me tell you a little bit more about Hollrr. Hollrr is a network for people obsessed with finding out about cool, new up-and-coming products and services. Hollrr was built for something that I love to do: root for 'underdog' products and small companies that I think deserve to succeed.
Because of this... we think it fits perfectly with iPhone apps. Its what people are already doing. I LOVE my iPhone.... one of the first things I'll do when I see someone else with an iPhone is ask them which cool apps do they use. Hollrr allows people to do this online by tapping into their social networks.
People love giving a shout-out to new apps....it allows them to show that they are in the know about which new apps are hot. We want want to recognize people who are good at this, and so we've built a reputation system to track just how good you are at spotting which new apps are gong to be popular.
Hollrr is free to use for both the user AND the iPhone developer. Many of the products on Hollrr have affiliate programs.... and we want to make sure that the Tribe of followers has an opportunity to share if any affiliate rewards are generated. For all products on Hollrr, if recommendations generate affiliate rewards, we will collect those rewards on behalf of the Tribe and re-distribute them back to the Tribe based on Reputation. Rewards should always reinforce reputation.
The app store is great. I use it all the time to find new Apps. But when I look at my iPhone screen... the vast majority of apps on my iPhone came from the recommendation of a friend. That is exactly the type of user action we are trying to encourage with Hollrr.
Love to hear any and all comments. Also, if any more iPhone developers have used Hollrr and have a good (or bad!) experience to tell, I'd love to hear it.
All the best,
Happy Hollrring!
