Please help to fix this error

This is the message i have received form my friend. If anybody knows please reply to this matter.

I have an iPhone 3Gs and i have tried installing 5.0.1 on it and i keep getting a -1 error. Which it sais this is a baseband problem. I can install a custom firmware on it and will go all the way through then it will start a loop restarting cycle. It sais it is on 5.0.01 and i have about 2 minutes before it restarts. Any suggestions on how to fix this? researched online and no success.
