Default best way to connect mac mini to a laptop?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to connect peripherals to my mac mini. *I've tried LogMeIn Free but this is too slow. *This is the process for typing the letter "a":

* type the letter "a" on my laptop
* this sends a request to the LogMeIn Free url
* LogMeIn Free forwards the request to my mac mini
* Mac mini processes the command and renders the letter "a" through its API.
* Mac mini returns the processed result to LogMeIn Free url
* LogMeInFree forwards the response to my laptop
* My laptop accepts the response and then writes it out to the monitor display.

As you can imagine this is a sluggish process, especially over a 3G connection. *

So what approach can I use for a more direct connection between my laptop and mac mini? *Can I use my iPhone as a router between my laptop and Mac mini? *This would be a much more direct connection between the components and therefore much faster. *However, I'm not sure what my options are for this or the easiest/best way to go about setting up something like this. *Any suggestions?

Mac laptop or PC laptop?

What kind of connection? File sharing? Screen sharing?

Do you have a wireless network where you'll be connecting them?

If you have a wireless network, use that.

If you don't have a wireless network, and don't have a router, buy a crossover 10BaseT cable (get one rated for 10 megabits/second. Connect the two computers together with that. You'll need to figure out how to make them talk to each other, however. The details will depend on what kind of laptop.

1. What does this have to do with iPhone development?!
2. Don't your laptop and Mac Mini come with an ethernet connector? You can do screen sharing with VNC or file sharing through Samba.
