I am CONSIDERING getting a programmer to help me develop an app for my church. Basically it will be an app to provide the person with information (upcoming events, news, upcoming service, read your bible in a year versus, etc).
I have no idea how to program. I know basic C++ and html/css. Therefore, I need major help. I feel like once the layout is done and once taught how to add information, I would be able to keep it updated.
How do I go about finding a programmer? Is it going to cost me $1,000's of dollars?
It totally depends upon your requirement and what mobile platform you want to go with. its not necessary that it will cost you 1000's of dollars. We are software development firm only. if you want you can contact me on 408 693 3153 or mail me at spatel (at) v-softinc.com.
The kinds of things you want to do seem relatively static (show a list of upcoming events) versus dynamic (David vs. Goliath boxing game). Is there something dynamic that can excite your audience, or at least mildly amuse them? Is there some part of your static content that MUST be available without an Internet connection? In short - why a smartphone and not a website?
What you are missing is "The Hook" - you need something to drag people into your app. I imagine your flock already have organizers & calendar apps, and bibles and bible apps. Once the "oooh, iPhone" factor wears off, why use your app?
Find a hook, then find a programmer. Otherwise you'll likely be out-of-pocket and stuck with an app nobody really cares about.
Then check this board (post in Software Jobs), get recommendations from local businesses who've hired programmer talent, check the Yellow Pages (or Google) for software consultants, etc. If you can handle some additional management headaches, local uni students and just-grads can do a decent enough job.

Any information is greatly appreciated.
I would like to talk to you about this. I am working on designing an app for churches my plans are to have a calendar, sermons streaming / downloads, see photos of recent events and such, still working on the backend and would like other ideas for what to add. The idea is for it to be a small cost then a monthly hosting price.

Very good things to consider. Being this is a new idea from a inexperienced person, this is some valuable information. Thank you.

I apologize Rhade for putting this in the wrong topic. Thank you for fixing.
