Compress HD video in real time

I am trying to capture 720p (1280×720) using a blackmagic capture card and compress the video to h.264. The capture works fine and i can save the it to disk etc.. The problem i am facing is compressing the video as it comes in. Apple does supply a class for this QTCompressionOptions. The problem is it will only compress it up to a resolution of 720x480 not 1280x720 HD! I was hoping this would be changed with snow leopard but i have checked and it looks the same. Has anybody done this be before and can point me in the direction of guide?
