Default Installing Xcode 4.2

Hello,

Can someone please tell me if I need to remove Xcode 4.1 or will 4.2 automatically replace 4.1

Thank you.

Just download, install, and you're good to go

If you want to uninstall first you can issue the following command from the terminal.

Code:
sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all

what makes 4.2 better? does it report why archives don't get built yet?

Default Installing Xcode 4.2

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB

Well I downloaded xcode 3.2.6 off the apple developer site and the first time I installed it, it worked. After running it, I noticed it had some error about missing sdk so I thought I should uninstall xcode and reinstall. So I did the sudo thing in terminal. I then tried to install xcode again and I realized that I had deleted the .dmg file. So I went to the developer site again and downloaded the same thing. After downloading, it does the usual verifying process before it mounts. While verifying, it returns an error with a reason saying "input/output". I thought it might have just some how gotten corrupted while downloading so I tried downloading it again and I encountered the same exact problem. Even when I downloaded earlier versions of xcode it did the same thing. I could install all other .dmg files without a problem. Also, the latest xcode 4 installed perfectly, but its very different and I would prefer to use xcode 3.2.6.

I heard that people who encounter this problem fixed it by doing a full restore of OSX. I don't want to lose all my files so that's my last resort.

Any help would be appreciated!
