Default Audio Output Level Meter

Hi... i'm a sound engineer and a new iOs developer and i need all your help... i want to develop an app that can predict the sound pressure level (SPL) in the user ears using headphones, no matter what the are doing in iPod, i mean the spl produced by the music player or a song played on youtube... what i have in mind it's to measure the iPod audio output level in dB Full-Scale, and then convert this value to spl based on some acoustics measurements i'm going to do with a binaural dummy head.

My question its obviously about the code... first, i don't know if it's possible to access to the audio output, and if it's possible to measure it.. i've been searching in some forums but it's not clear yet for me what to use.. Audio Queue Services or Audio Unit.. i know it's a little bit complicated but i need your help at least to get started...

Thanks for your help

Juan
