Simple 'PullString' application help

Hey guys,
I've checked out the forum and I can't believe the wealth of info that's in here.

My brother and I are just starting Iphone dev and we're kicking off with a really simple app that runs a continuous loop of our faces and, when you click on one of us, it simulates us getting punched in the face.

We figure that what we need is to run a looped vid of ourselves and, on touch, the video is swapped out to a vid of one of our faces being punched.

My question is, what's the easiest way to do this with objective c? Is there a tutorial for working with video in ob c?

We've heard recommendations that we should use animated .gifs instead of vid to save space but we're still not sure.
