I've searched the net for answers, but can't find one that works.
I drag my PNG to my resources folder, click "Copy items into destination groups folder", reference type: default, text encoding Unicode-UTF8, and "Recursively create groups for any added folders".
But when I launch my XIB file, I can't access any of my images in drop downs, and the Media browser shows nothing.
I've tried saving out of photoshop in 72dpi, with alpha, all sorts. I've even dragged images in from sample code found on the web, but can't access those images.
If I type the name of the image I get a "?" image. But when I run my project from xCode, it works. However Cmd-R in Simulator shows a grey space...
...I've tried reinstalling Xcode, but all I get is an upgrade option...
...ANY thoughts would be most welcome, I'm pulling my hair out here!!!
I've tried 3.2, and 3.1.3 of the SDK, uninstalling and reinstalling - still no luck. I've tried projects in \Documents\Projects and just plain \Documents...
...I notice however if I open the XIB from Interface Builder I see my images, if I open from a double click on the XIB in XCODE I don't see the images!!! VERY STRANGE!
I had the same problem on one of my projects. I have no clue what caused it, but I was able to type the name into the image field in IB and it worked when I ran the program. You'll get a question mark box where the image is supposed to be in interface builder though, so if your design relies on seeing the image, it doesn't help.

I have had this issue before but haven't had it recently. What you need to do is create a group called "resources" in Xcode and put your images in there. When adding images, you want to copy them to your app folder root, then drag them into the resources folder in Xcode, and do not check to add recursively. You may also need to restart your mac.

Hope that helps
Uh - hold on guys. You don't need to jump through all the hoops and you definitely don't need to restart your mac. Add > Existing Files to the project in Xcode wherever you want - typically in Resources which is where most people put them. Then build the project. Then go to Interface Builder and select File > Reload All Classes. The images are now accessible from the icon drop downs.
