Benefits of Game Center?
I just submitted my first Game category app' Present Hunt, and while I think we did a great job with the gameplay mechanics etc... I am facing regret for not pushing to implement gamecenter leaderboards or achievements yet.
I haven’t really used gamecenter much before, mainly because none of my friends really use it; but if we are to make successful games, it really seems like an awesome opportunity to implement.
It really does act as a secondary app store.. For instance, I just became friends with 2 of my co-workers, and have downloaded 3 games I saw on their lists that I haven’t had already; 2 were games I was interested in but hadn’t actually downloaded yet, and one was a random find that I chose to download because it looked cool and ultimately provided the possible competition between a friend.
Game center for iOS 5 allows you to view the app page and download directly from within game center, so you effectively get an advertisement to each players friends every time they download and use game center within your app.
Game center has been underutilized up till now, but I think it is quickly becoming an expected attribute of any well-polished game.
Does anyone have experience with a before and after implementation of game-center in their apps? I'm interested to know the effects because I would like to push my team to get on the bandwagon.
Thanks for any insight,
-Matt
