Action to make phone vibrate

Hello, folks. Thanks for reading. Confession...I'm not a developer, but I am an interested party in that I've hired developers to do some work. In one project, a video will play. The short, small video is sent from a server to the recipient's iPhone and it will be customized to the extent that there's a clickable field on top of it with a personalized message. The recipient presses an onscreen button to play the video. In the video, there are three or four somewhat surprising events, each occuring at a specfic elapsed time in the video. I'd like to have the iPhone vibrate at these events to add to the surprise. Can this be done? Were this Flash (yuck, gag), an actionscript could pass the message out of the swf to the device, but I'm not sure something similar can be done with the iOS. Any thoughts?
