Question iOS sound level advice?

I'm creating some sound effects for a game, and I would like to know what is the appropriate
sound level I should create my sounds at?

I've listening with and without headphones, and the sound level is much louder on
the headphones, almost to the point of unbearable.

I'm using AudioServices to play my sound effects, so there are no volume controls here.

I'm tempted to reduce the sound levels to as low as they can go, but I can't believe
I'm getting such loud and unbearable sounds on the headphone.

Just hoping to get some practical advice instead of "whatever sounds good".

First off we can't tell you what is appropiate because sound is based on what the creator want and every speaker will sound different.

The only question I have for you is what is the volume on the device when you listen to the sound. If it's at max volume or really high then you might want to try to lower the volume(I typically have my iphone's volume at about half). If it's not then compare it to some of the other sounds in the game.

However you obvisously would like the sound to be lower. You might want to use an external editor on the sound clip and reduce the sound.

I haven't had the chance yet to try it out on the iPhone, but right now, I'm running the Simulator,
and I'm listening through the MacMini headphone port. System preferences have the volume set at
about halfway.

But, I'm sure everything will change as soon I as get to the iPhone, so even more frustration.
