Default Turn-based gaming?

Hey everyone... I'm working on a game that has turn-based multiplayer (essentially the style of words with friends). I've been looking into the new game center iOS 5 turn-based gaming apis but I'm a little concerned about using game center. Most people i know with gamecenter haven't set up many friends in the gamecenter app, making turn based gaming less fun or more difficult to start.

Using game center would certainly make the programming simpler, but I feel like I'd reach a smaller audience.

I'd be interested in hearing peoples experiences and/or thoughts on this?

Thanks

I'm planning to add this feature to my next updates and I think it has a lot going for it. The user can always choose not to use the service.

While it may be true that most of your friends don't have Game Center accounts, there are lots of people who do and they may want to play a random opponent - not necessarily someone they know.

Thanks for the reply. My game is such that it is not possible to have a single player mode... it is going to be multiplayer only

I think you might be supprized with game center. Like you said programming will be easier. But also loads of people have it. Is it a requirement that the players are all friends?

game center is fine if you want to limit your game to just Apple.....but want if you want cross-platform on Adnroid as well (same as draw something?)

I read somehere that you can use hosting from Smart Fox server.....but it looks pretty expensive.

is it not possible to use a non-dedicated host, where the challenger stores the game information?
