Default Starting game development

Hi guys!

So I'm learning game development, and I think I know enough to start with my own game. Where should I start? I'm trying to develop one of those simple yet addicting games...

My question is how does one get the graphics so good on a 2d iPhone game? For example, Angry Birds (duh) and Tiny Wings, are extremely simple yet elegant and addicting. Thats what I'm aiming for. How are those graphics achieved???? Engines like Cocos 2D don't really produce those graphics... do they? Or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!!!

I think you have to look at two different tools: Graphics and Game Engine.
Graphics can be bought or made. Most use a special tool for this, or contract the work out as it requires an artistic touch.

Game engines are very different. You can write your own logic or can use something like cocoa2d.

You might want to buy one of those books that have a complete example from start to finish.

There is no right answer to such generic question.
You should focus on being an artist or programmer because it is really hard to do both.
As a programmer, If I were to start, I would pick a ready to use game engine along with a programming language, stick to them, practice a lot, and start with the simplest possible games you can think, then gradually move on.

The graphics quality mostly depend on the artists than the programming/engine (unless the art style itself requires some very specific feature or to have very optimized rendering). I'm pretty sure Angry Birds could be done with Cocos2d
