Default Working with NSLocalNotification ala TinyTower

I'm creating a game that will use NSLocalNotification similar to the way TinyTower does it; however I can't seem to figure out how Tiny Tower does its calculations for all the stock/products you have sold since you were gone.

Am I correct in thinking Tiny Tower does indeed use local notifications and how does it prevent people cheating by simply moving the timer/clock forward?

Has anyone resolved that issue in the past?

Final question, lets say you use a local notification - how do you make the notification launch a specific view controller?

Thanks.

yes, Tiny Tower use local notifications.

I don't think you have a easy way to avoid cheats, since that you can only check the time that user "played" in the game and the time delayed from the last running (and if user modified it, you can't know it).

for your final question, just see documentation: Local and Push Notification Programming Guide
in particular "Handling Local and Remote Notifications"

Many thanks! A lot of people I've seen on Stackoverflow just said to use an external source, like a web server -- but I am not sure how they account for a user's localized timezone.

I've sent the company that made TinyTower an email to find out how they fixed the bug (if indeed they did).

Thank you.

My daughter installed tiny tower on my iPad, and I just checked, and you can cheat by rolling the clock forward. My iPad doesn't have 3G tho, just wifi, so I can't confirm if they fixed it on a device with network service.

I will say this, nimblebit came out with pocket frogs and it was the same deal, and I don't think they ever could fix that same cheat. I could be wrong, as it's been a while since I had it on my phone.
