I've tried some games like "FlightControl" and "MetalStorm" to see if the two player mode was in fact "real-time" (I move on my device, player two sees that movement immediately).
I've yet to come to a conclusion, yet I think it may be plausible.
Can somebody address this issue and discuss if you believe this will be an option with iOS 5?
Thanks You.
My game would require seeing real-time movement from your opponent. If it makes a difference my game has very simple movements, touch object moves.
I don't see why not, iPhone has access to internet, it can do exactly the same as a PC in that aspect, so you can have multiplayer games like you have on pc (well, except for control schemes that need to be different)
Even on the PC you don't really have 'real time' multiplayer, as message between pcs always take 100ms or more to travel back and forth. This is hidden by some cool algoritms that extrapolate (or intrapolate) the players movement.

Yeah, that's my thought too, but I'm unable to find a game that does it.
I wanted to bump this thread, because after much research I'm still unclear if this is possible.
Can anyone shed some light on this topic?
I wish I had a specific example for you, but from strictly a programming perspective I would think it's definitely possible. Easy? Perhaps not, but if Nintendo can do this with the DS, which is essentially an inferior device (in terms of utility), surely it can be done on the iPhone.
Maybe someone with more iPhone app programming experience can chime in here.
Lol what your describing is called "MULTIPLAYER" and it exists in tons of apps, for example doodle jump, trenches, angry hills.. shall I go on? Learn how to work with game center and you shall find your answer
Well i am very found of playing games on my iPhone, but most of the time i usually play single player games, you can play angry birds seriousaly the best game for iphone. If you have a multiplayer games list then please tell me here. Thanks in advance.
My activity would require seeing real-time activity from your challenger. If it is important my activity has very simple motions, touch item goes.
Flick fieldgoal has an "online multiplayer" function that is real-time if you need an example. I believe its only in the $0.99 version, but I may be wrong. Good luck
