Is an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3gs version needed?

Hi,

i have a question, i am not a an iPhone developer, but i have come across a question that i need answered.

When developing a game for the iPhone, is it necessary to create a separate version for the iPhone retina display, and one for the old resolution, if the game from the start has been designed for the retina display?

Basically - if you begin to develop an app now, is there any reason to develop separate versions for the retina resolution and the old resolution?

Hi eskala,

I don´t think it´s possible to develop seperate versions. New apps are either developed with the old resolution in mind or with graphics for both versions. In the first case the graphics are just upscaled for the retina display. That is automatically handled by the device. In the other case the app recognizes the device it´s running on and selects the right graphics according to the resolution. This does not happen automatically and must be implemented by the developers.
