Default graphics performance in simulator

Hi,
If anybody could shed some light on this it would be great...
I am making a 2d game, using the crashlanding Texture2d classes... so the graphics are opengl but there is no real 3d going on... it runs fine on the iphone but it really grinds in the simulator...
I am running on a macbook pro 2.4 core duo... with the good video cards...
most of the game runs ok, but when there are a lot of textures with transparency it starts to drop loads of frames...
i don't understand how a quite powerful mac like that cannot run the game at the same speed as the iphone...
and it matters because i am trying to record video of the game...
thanks in advance for any help....
oh, i only have 2gig at the moment, upgrading to 4 likely to solve this?
thanks,
Ross

That's the way it is ... the simulator is a pure software simulator which means it uses your CPU to do everything ... and yeah, heavy fillrate requirements tend to kill it big time but until Apple switches to OpenGL based simulator ( using your local GPU ) there is nothing you can do about it.
