Default Enlarged background images for iPad

I have background images for each of my UIViewControllers. Each has a mode = center within IB.

I have a small size for the iPhone (512 x 512) and a large size for the iPad (1024 x 1024). I name them "image.png" and "image@2x.png", respectively.

Works very well for both Simulators.

However, when I archive and place on my personal iPad, only the small (512 x 512) images show. Come to really think about it, no large background image shows and no large individual sub-view shows. No "image@2x.png", just the "image.png".

Simulators great ... the real deal, not so great?

What extraordinarily stupid thing am I doing? Is it my naming convention .png and @2x.png??

BTW, it's a Universal App.

If you want to have that image load on iPad you need to name it image~ipad.png

the @2x is for iPhone retina.

Darn ... Darn ... I should have known that since the tilde naming convention applies to the .xib files.

I really am thoroughly embarrassed ... thoroughly ... big time.

Okay, I changed the names to the suffix, "~ipad".

I then re-shared the app with my iPad and the app crashed on the iPad. Ran Profiler, ran iPad Simulator from Xcode and not a problem.

At the root level of my Project, after all the Classes, I have:

iPhone-iPod folder:
MainWindow.xib
FirstView.xib
SecondView.xib

etc.

Then,

iPad folder:
MainWindow~ipad.xib
FirstView~ipad.xib
SecondView~ipad.xib

Is there a problem with the file placement???

Could be. Delete the app from the simulator, clean the project and try again in simulator.
Post the crash as well...

Changed all the names from ~iPad to ~ipad … except I forgot the darn pList file component which specifies the name of the main nib file base name for iPad. The Simulator apparently places very loose with capitalization for the pList file

Boy, am I a happy camper.

At least it looks pretty good on my iPad …

Now, gotta wait for those very, very elusive license releases for 3 copyrighted songs:

(1) "Mansions of the Lord" as sung by the West Point Military Academy Glee Club (it was made for the movie "We Were Soldiers")

(2) "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood, which song greatly uplifted the spirit of America after 9-1-1

(3) "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" by Tony Orlando, the de-facto song welcoming home our fighting military men and women from overseas

BTW, the title of my free mobile app is "My Love Song to America", short version = "Love Song"

Dealing with the sometimes super-egos within the entertainment industry is a very patience-tasking enterprise.

I almost think it's time for a nap …
