What are these UIFont properties - pointSize, ascender, descender, capHeight, xHeight, lineHeight ?? How are they used ??

I read through and did some work on knowing what is what... but could not get through can anyone point me what I should refer further...

I was trying to get the maximum number of characters that can be in a row of UITextView. Now I got those. Still need to consider the space between two characters. My calculation goes good only for monospaced fonts.

NSInteger maxCharacters = textView.frame.size.width / size2.width;

where size represents the size of a font. Its approximately correct, but still need to consider the spaces between the characters.
