Default Transfering data to/from Mac/PC ?

Hi all !

First post on the forum ... and new to Objective-C development...
I'm been searching a way to transfer data between a Mac/PC and an iPhone/iPod Touch but didn't really find a valid solution ...
One might be the use of webservices, the other the use of sockets.
Both looks quite hard to implement as the only Network API we get is the CFNetworks ...
Now I was wondering if there could be another way to do it.
Reading the iPhone dev pdfs, it looks like data are sync within an application, within iTunes.
Now, what if I want to put new data on the PC/Mac ? Should I have the user to find where the application is under iTunes, puts a new data file then sync the iphone ?

Will we have to create a desktop application to do our own transfert (socket/webservices) ?
I'm a bit lost ... trying to figure out the best way to do data transfer ... :|

Thanks a lot for your help !

At the moment, I think this might be an open question. I'm sure Apple has, or will, provide a way to move data from the Mac to third-party iPhone apps. We know that we don't have access to the doc connector, and I haven't run across a sync services API.

There's always the option of doing network communications between your iPhone and Mac using Bonjour, but that's less than ideal.

If I were you, I would file an enhancement request with Apple using the Bug Reporter. That's the only way they know when we need something they're not providing. People seem to be hesitant to do that - please don't. I was talking with someone who works at Apple and he was telling me that one very common problem had never been reported, though it had been widely talked about on the Cocoa-dev mailing list for two years.

The bug reporter is your friend as long as you do your homework before filing your enhancement request. They do actually use these requests in prioritizing what to add.
