The overall question: Can Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard build to an iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1?
The full run-down:
So I haven't yet upgraded to Lion. Still running 10.6.8, and thus I am running Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard.
Well I just tried to build an app onto my iPad running 5.0.1 (after not having tried to do so for a while) and now it tells me "No provisioned iOS devices are available with a compatible iOS version. Connect a device with a recent enough version of iOS to run your application or choose an iOS simulator as the destination."
I highly doubt the problem is that I'm not running a "recent enough" version of iOS, as to my knowledge 5.0.1 is the latest. So I suspect that my version of Xcode may just not be able to work with 5.0.1? I can't remember if I built on 5.0.1 before...so I wanted to see if anyone here knew for sure. Apple's dev site is no help, at least not so far. I also know for a fact that the device is properly provisioned, and the organizer confirms that the app's provisioning profile is up-to-date. However, it tells me this when I go to the organizer page where I would normally be able to click "use for development": "Could not support development"
Help? Do I have to update to Lion before I can continue building to my iPad? I'd rather not pay the $30 if I don't have to (I'm a college student and every $ I can save is useful). But if it means that I won't be able to build any more apps to my device, I will definitely do it. (I understand that newer software eventually stops being compatible with older software/OSes)

If so, it would be MUCH appreciated if you'd just click on one of these apps:
MyD
Take 1 minute to set up your MyD and you'll always be able to prove you own your device!
Membrik
Test your memory by sliding tiles to match chains of increasing difficulty.
As far as I know, Snow Leopard is still fully supported for iOS development.
Hmm, well then do you have any ideas as to why it won't build on my iPad? I assumed so too but if that's the case then there's no reason why it shouldn't be building...Right?

Xcode 4.2 can build for iOS 5, but it needs the iOS 5 SDK as well. Just go onto the apple developer site and download the latest xcode for snow leopard. You need to do this whenever you upgrade your device.
