My provisioning profile had expired on my App that was installed and needed to show someone quick and I wasn't near a PC to sort out a promo code or renew the profile so I just purchased it from iTunes for quickness. Is this frowned upon by Apple?

I cannot imagine why you wouldn't buy it. You certainly, if nothing else, want to see that it downloads, installs, and runs as you expected when purchased from the store.

We use a promo code for that.
