AppStore DRM has been compromised! Check if YOUR app is out in the 'wild'
So I have during the last days pondered about the large discrepancy on sales and the number of chart downloads my server is seeing.
Seems like there are two holes in the DRM AppStore put in place...
1. Promotional codes have been compromised
2. Apps are cracked and then uploaded to the server below.
AppScene - You crack it, We host it.
And apps can then be searched and downloaded from here..
Check if your app is there ?
And if it downloads anything from your server and you have noticed more activity you now know why!

There is another kind of lengthy thread on here about cracked apps. That is just another site that is hosting them. Nothing new really. That one might be taken down, but 10 more will replace it.

I agree with the above; you can never stop piracy. If we ever feel it becomes a huge problem, however, isn't it something we can take care of ourselves. I mean consider the amount of hackitude we can collectively muster. I'm pretty sure with a concentrated effort we can conjure up a pretty wicked DDOS takedown of offending sites lol.

In my case I guess I'm lucky since the app NEEDs data from a server,
so I can add some sort of authentication there - still sux your app is
downloaded illegally!
Has Apple been known to do anything ?
I notified them but of course haven't heard anything back (seems like whatever you takes a couple of days with Apple!)

Apple has been known to send out letters to offending sites. Some get shut down. I read a blog a while back about a guy that was attempting to stop pirates. He had his server record which UDID came from a cracked version. He would compare the size of the plist inside the application with the size it should be. If it varies any, he would record their UDID. I think he would prevent access to his application if their UDID was on the list.

Send an email to abuse@1and1.com and they will probably remove it. They're stupid to say they wil actually host it, sites that link can't be taken down but sites that actually host it can.
