Default A question bluetooth master/slave with iPhone

I'm thinking of developing an app that utilizes the bluetooth capacity of the phone, but I've been warned that it may or may not work based on how bluetooth works in the iPhone. In a nutshell, I'd like to be able to have one device act as a master and another as a slave. Can an iPhone be a slave (even if only temporarily for the app's use)?

Thanks.
