Overlay toolbar on top of photo app?

Hi. I am having a hard time figuring out how to overlay a toolbar on top of my photo so that I can pop back to my Main View.

I tried initializing an outlet for a toolbar in my LargeImageVC, then in my ImageScrollView, and finally in my TiledImageVC.

I am trying to get to a point where I have a zoomable photo in high res, that I can navigate away from, but I can't seem to overlay any controls.

I am still new at all of this which is probably evident. Here is my zip file if anyone has the time or will to help.
