Image Slicing

Hello all, can someone give a head start on how to slice a image. Basically I want to use parts of a whole image as buttons in my application, just like the phone UI (TelephonyUI).

Could you use adobe photoshop?

I think they mean more like using image sprites, which is something I had been curious about too.

If you have 20 icons you need to use in your application, you can compress a single png file containing all of them down more than you could if you had 20 different png files.

walla, i did manage to make this work using

had to do some manipulations though. And one more important thing the 0,0 of the image is taken as left bottom corner. So imagine that the image is in first quadrant of a 2D axis.
