BlueTooth Communitcation Between an Android & iOS Device

Hi All

I am new to iPhone development and am looking to build an app on both an iOS & Android phone that can communicate with each other.

I know communication via blue tooth from an android to an iPhone is possible because 'Bump' does this. What I can't seem to find out is if this is handled via an iPhone API (such as the Gamekit API which seems to be the best for communicating between iPhones) or if they have built something from scratch themselves.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
