Taking screenshots from an url link

Let's say there is a view having only 1 imageView and 1 textField. When a user type in an url link in the textField, the imageView will display the screenshot of that link, is that possible?

there is nothing for that, so you should use an external service written in php or whatelse....

It would be possible. You will have to create a uiwebview off screen - load the actual web page and then render the view as an image.

The only drawback here is that you will have to actually load the page in order to get the image. So if you have a lot of pages this can take some time. You wouldn't want to do this in a uitableview with a lot of records...

Have a look at the layer function renderInContext.

yes, but he will not have a full resolution of the site, just a preview or part of it (if it not fit the screen).

Well, that was my understanding of the question, he wants a preview of the site. You could modify the size of the view so that you would fit a fairly large web page (although not arbitrary). But we're still pretty limited by the overall screen size of the phone though.

But then again - with this approach, why not load the web page in a uiwebview on screen to begin with instead of doing it off screen and rendering an image after...
