Default Access to Volume Buttons

Hi, I've seen a few of these questions, but they are all from last year. Is there any update to a public API that allows detection of volume rocker press? Does Apple still reject private API's that access this?

On a slightly related note, how would one go about detecting pressure on a capacitive screen? Is there a way of detecting the size of a touch? Sorry for the excessive questioning, I'm a noob dev. Thanks in advance.

I haven't used the hardware buttons yet but I think they're not private. Not sure. Though I am sure from the HIG that if you use them for anything other than what is expected (changing volume) your app will be rejected. I think there was an app that tried to use them for taking photos which was rejected.

There was a similar thread a little while ago, the census was that accelerometer data is used along with the touch detection to determine the intensity of the tap. This of course only works if the phone is in your hands and not on a fixed surface. And it'll only work for intensity of short taps, not prolonged pressure of a finger on the screen.

Thanks. I was really hoping the hardware was capable of determining the size of a touch.
