Animated Text Highlighting - iPad

Hey all,

i'm a bit dazzled, kinda new to the whole iOs state of mind, so here is my question.

if you ever got around to try ToyStory2 the iPad book, there is a specific feature in there i'm trying to accomplish.

the Animated Text Highlighting, where a yellow highlight trail scans the text in a gradient fashion.

any pointers where or what to look for ?

i tried to animate an all yellow UIView to be the highlight, but the affine scaling happens on both sides of the rect ( uniformly ) not to mention the gradient effect.
